Anniston, AL (September 24, 1996)-Faith Presbyterian Church hosted the 78th Stated Meeting of Evangel Presbytery. RE Houston Welchel was re-elected Moderator by acclamation.
TE Harry Cooksey was approved as Stated Supply at Eastside Presbyterian Church for one year. Presbytery dissolved the pastoral relationship between TE George McGuire and Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church, and granted Mr. McGuire a letter of dismissal to the Christian Reformed Church.
Mr. Robert Bailey was examined and approved for ordination as Assistant Pastor of Decatur Presbyterian Church. Mr. Andrew Southwell was examined and approved for licensure. Mr. Charles Hooper and Mr. Larry Taunton were received as ministerial candidates.
Evangel Presbytery joined with Briarwood Presbyterian Church in inviting the General Assembly to meet at Briarwood in 2002.
TE Clete Hux addressed the court regarding the work of Watchman Fellowship, and Mr. Jim Lowden, Executive Director of the Rutherford Institute of Alabama, spoke of his work.
Presbytery voted to erect a commission to hear an appeal against the Session of Presbyterian Reformed Church of Pleasant Grove.
