Decision on Reformed University Ministries Delayed for a Year
Colorado Springs, CO (June 12, 1997)--The General Assembly gave a study committee considering whether Reformed University Ministries (RUM) should be a separate committee from Mission to North America (MNA) another year to complete its work. The study committee had been erected by MNA prior to last year's Assembly, in reaction to several overtures from Deep South presbyteries.
Recent concerns over the direction of that study committee had prompted Covenant and Grace Presbyteries to adopt resolutions which asked that RUM be separated immediately from MNA. Only the one from Covenant made it to the Assembly, and that was answered in the negative. However, the court instructed the Campus Study Committee to "bring specific recommendations to the 26th GA concerning [RUM's] relationship with the PCA", after consulting "with concerned presbyteries."
