On March 13-14, 1998, Valley Presbyterian Church, Narrows, VA, hosted the 72nd Stated Meeting of New River Presbytery. The Moderator, TE David Currence, called the meeting to order. Host Pastor TE Don Clements led a service of worship, which included special music by the Valley Church choir, preaching by TE Paul Settle of North Texas Presbytery, and the administration of the Lord's Supper.
Mr. Clements reported that 14 people are still worshipping at the Friendship Presbyterian Church in Princeton, WV; and that the congregation desires pulpit supply twice a month.
TE Gordon Woolard reported on the preliminary report from the Standing Judicial Commission's panel which heard the complaint against the Presbytery.
Mr. Currence reported for the Mission to North America Committee on the Hope Mission, Parkersburg, WV. He reported that TE David Eades passed the Assessment Center evaluation and is wrestling with whether to become organizing pastor there. Presbytery received the document entitled, "Covenant of Commitment for MNA-The Southeast Region."
It was reported that the Stated Clerk will correspond with Greenville (SC) Presbyterian Theological Seminary regarding the possibility of oversight by several PCA presbyteries.
The Candidates and Credentials Committee moved that the license to preach of Terry Roush be revoked "because of his failure to appear before the Presbytery for re-examination." Presbytery approved a substitute motion, as follows: "The Moderator shall appoint a Commission (2 TE & 2 RE with quorum of 3) to meet with Terry Roush to confront him about his vows and the need to appear before Presbytery at the next meeting and if not possible they will revoke his license."
Presbytery received under care and licensed Mr. Steven Warhurst, a member of Providence Reformed Presbyterian Church, Barboursville, WV. He is a teacher at Covenant Christian School.
The court heard from RE Bill Carr of Johnson City,
TN, who is going as an MTW missionary to South Africa.
