A DECLARATION TO PRESIDENT WILLIAM J. CLINTON FROM THE GREAT LAKES PRESBYTERY OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN AMERICA
Whereas, it is incumbent upon our civil leaders to exemplify moral character and conduct becoming their respective offices, and,
Whereas, any civil magistrate that violates his or her duty to exemplify moral character and conduct befitting his or her office has forfeited the trust and confidence of his or her constituency, and,
Whereas, President William J. Clinton has committed immoral acts unbecoming his office and thereby, forfeited the trust and confidence of his constituency,
Therefore, be it resolved that the Great Lakes Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America hereby humbly implores President William J. Clinton to repent of sins of bearing false witness and sexual
immorality, and to submit to church leadership and scripture for the purpose of reconciliation to his family and to Christ. Furthermore, we humbly implore him to show appropriate fruits of repentance in both his
public and private life by ceasing from said immoral and ungodly behavior and by humbly pursuing righteousness* for the glory of God, the good of himself, his family and this great nation.
