Palmetto

Palmetto Presbytery met for its 59th stated session on July 23, 1998, at Northeast Presbyterian Church, Columbia, SC. The Moderator, Dr. Gordon Reed, called the meeting to order and presided. Dr. Luder Whitlock, President of Reformed Theological Seminary, preached from Romans, "Remaining True to the Reformed Faith." He also administered communion.

TE Bob Korn spoke concerning care and concern for the fellow ministers who are sick and/or retired. "He asked Presbytery to be concerned for the older ministers, showing their love, and letting them know of your care through phone calls, notes and visits."

RE William Plowden, Jr., Presbytery Treasurer, stated that churches needed to be informed of the need for increased finances. He cautioned that church planting and other needful things will be adversely affected unless churches contribute more than what they are presently giving.

Presbytery approved the commission reports to ordain Berry Hudson as campus minister with RUM to the College of Charleston and The Citadel, and to install TE Michael L. Harvey as Pastor of the Aimwell Presbyterian Church, Ridgeway, SC.

Mr. Thomas Campbell and Mr. James Byers were taken under care as ministerial candidates. Presbytery established an internship program for Mr. Campbell at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Columbia, SC, with TE Rick Perrin serving as the Field Elder and TE James Riley as the Intern Subcommittee Representative.

Presbytery received the following men by transfer: John Warren, Jr., from Central Carolina Presbytery, to become Senior Pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church, Aiken, SC; Ed Ouimette from Southwest Florida Presbytery to become Senior Pastor of the Union PCA, Salters, SC; and Wesley Holland from Gulf Coast Presbytery to become Assistant Pastor of New Covenant PCA, Aiken, SC.

Presbytery licensed Mr. Howard Haines to preach the gospel. Presbytery also approved the ordination exam of Mr. John Wilder Uhl, who has been called by the Northeast PCA, Columbia, as a church planter. His father-in-law, TE Robert B. Vincent, was allowed to preach the ordination sermon. (Mr. Vincent and his church withdrew from the PCA's Louisiana Presbytery to join the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.-Ed.)

Presbytery approved a commission to install TE Al Lutz as Presbytery Evangelist to establish a church at Sun City, Hilton Head, SC.

The pastoral relationship between TE James Dallery and St. Matthews (SC) PCA was dissolved, as Mr. Dallery has accepted a position as a church planter with the MNA Committee and Perimeter Ministries in North Georgia Presbytery. Dr. Igou Hodges will serve as stated supply at the St. Matthews church until a pastor is found. The pastoral relationship between TE William J. Powis, II, and the Faith PCA, Ballentine, SC, was dissolved, as he has accepted a position with MNA as a church planter in Los Angeles.
