Central Carolina



Matthews, NC (January 24-25, 1997)-Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church hosted the 68th Stated Meeting of Central Carolina Presbytery. Dr. Douglas Kelly of Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte preached from II Corinthians 4 for the communion service Friday night.
The Presbytery reconvened the next morning for business. RE Robert Stevenson (Faith Church, China Grove) was elected Moderator. Presbytery adopted a resolution of thanks for TE Dan King, the retiring Moderator. Others elected included: TE Gary Cox, Assistant Moderator; TE David Frierson, Stated Clerk; TE Stephen Stout, Assistant Clerk; and RE Paul English, Treasurer.
Presbytery approved the commission reports to ordain and install Ronald Coleman as Assistant Pastor of Meadowview Presbyterian Church; to install TE Steven L. Angle as Pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church, Kernersville; and to install TE Patrick J. Womack as Pastor of Carolina Presbyterian Church, Locust.
The court voted to find the appeal of Dr. Robert Shive against the judgment of Christ Covenant Church in order and appointed a judicial commission to adjudicate it. The complaint of Conrad, et al., having to do with removal from the membership of Prosperity Presbyterian Church, was heard in executive session. Presbytery, with one abstention, denied the complaint. A judicial commission was established to hear the complaint of Mr. Levin against Christ Covenant.
Presbytery voted to discontinue the church plant in Statesville, NC, and encouraged the members of Presbytery prayerfully to assist TE Bert Gibson "in finding the Lord's call." First Reformed Presbyterian Church of Charlotte was received from independency as a mission church. The petition from Sandhills Church to organize as a particular church was approved and a commission was appointed.
Presbytery authorized the Shepherding Committee (or other representatives) "to meet with the pastor, Session, and representatives of the congregation of the Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church of Concord, with their consent, in order to address various situations."
TE Harry Dorsey's resignation from Christ Covenant Central Mission was approved and he was placed on the rolls without call. A Care Committee was instructed to meet with Mr. Dorsey regarding his request to be divested of the ministry.
TE Terry Crahen was transferred to Pacific Northwest Presbytery to receive a call from the newly-organized church in Boise, ID.
Mr. Marvin Harris, divested last year, was placed on the rolls of First Church Stanley, as Christ Covenant Church of Matthews "declined the request of presbytery to receive him."
It was moved, seconded, and approved that the Shepherding Committee meet with TE Wayne Zaepfel "concerning his absence from presbytery meetings."
Having been called by First Church Ellerbe, TE James Benjamin Watson was examined and received from Warrior Presbytery.
Presbytery received under care Mr. Stephen Beck. An oral report was heard from Licentiate Mark Upton regarding his internship at Friendly Hills Presbyterian Church. Written reports were received from Interns Frank Newell and D. DeWayne Rush.
Presbytery confirmed various appointments by the Moderator. Among these was RE Chris Dollar to replace RE Paul English on the Credentials Commitee. This motion was adopted after being amended to read, "pending approval by the [Christ Covenant] Session."
